SPRING CLEAN YOUR LIFE!

The spring season is a time of year synonymous with making a fresh start. Many people all over the world take out their marigolds, feather dusters and cleaning equipment to give their home a spring clean and declutter, but how many people think about spring-cleaning their life? More often than not because of comfort or lack of time we sometimes allow certain areas of life to become neglected or overlooked, that is why it is important to take time to reflect and take stock of your life in order to maximise your potential. It does involve making changes, tough decisions and hard work to get the results you want.

So what is a life spring clean? Basically, it is looking at key areas of your life and exploring ways to revitalise or change aspects that lay stagnate or hindering your progress. This can be hard for people to do especially if you don’t know what areas to look at. So I want to share with you three areas that might need a ‘spring clean’ and a key tip on where to make a start!

Relationships: If you have friends, family or associates in your life that put you down, criticise you or generally negative with their outlook on life then it is time to ask yourself the question “what benefit do they bring to my life?” In order to grow you need people around you who want to see you succeed that support and encourage you to be the best you can be, but if you surround yourself with toxic people it will ruin your confidence and plans. People that do not champion themselves often cannot champion and encourage others.

Tip: Distance yourself from any relationships that are negative and concentrate on relationships that are encouraging and supportive.

Career: Are you unhappy with your job? Does it make you feel unchallenged, de-motivated or frustrated? Do you wake up on a Monday morning miserable before you have even left your house? Then it is time to re-evaluate. I recently left traditional employment because I had outgrown the job and also to build my company YEME Empowerment. If you are not looking to step out and start your own business you can review your current employment. The majority of the time for most people is spent at work so it is important that where possible you make your job work for you.

Tip: If you work for an employer and want to further enhance your skills, find out if any courses are available to you in support this. Doing a course may also add value to your current post and could even earn you a pay rise. If not look at other jobs that may be of interest to you or develop yourself further by doing an online or evening course to set you on track to the career you want. A key thing I have learnt is in whatever you do, do it in line with something you are passionate about.

Health and Diet: Sometimes when people are unhappy and bored they tend to overeat or not eat things that are good for them- I have been there! After years of healthy eating and maintaining my weight, I went through a period two years ago when I started to snack out. Fortunately, because I can quickly regulate myself when going off track, I banished the sugary foods, stepped up my exercise and dealt with the causes of why I was overeating. Certain environments don’t help and it is hard when your job requires you to sit at a desk all day. The trip to the photocopier is the most exercise some people get, but that can be turned around.

Tip: What would motivate you to embrace a healthier lifestyle? Why are you eating the wrong foods? Identifying this is key to being able to stay away from temptation and help you embrace a healthier lifestyle. There are plenty of free diet tips and health mindset advice on the Internet. Swap unhealthy snacks with other options and drink plenty of water! Also on your lunch break, you could take a brisk walk. It recommended you exercise five times a week for 20 minutes a time. Remember small steps lead to big improvements.
